Curriculum Vitae
Sparrow (max) he/she • Queer artist & musician living and working in Kjipuktuk (Halifax), Mi’kma’ki (Nova Scotia).
Sparrow (also known as max) is a fourth year student at NSCAD University pursuing a Bachelor’s of Fine Arts in Interdisciplinary Art. Both medium-less and abundant in them, Sparrow finds himself commonly in installation and sculptural based work, as well as photography and painting. As a queer and trans artist living in unceded Mi’kmak’i, Sparrow uses her creations as a voice – to speak up for herself, the community, and to bring serious material into the spotlight. He often cites his deeply emotional past in his artwork through intentional colours, textures, shapes, materials, and any which way to get across the message, whilst thought-provokingly including the present to transform the public’s perception. Sparrow extends his creativity to music. She writes beautiful songs with fascinating musicality and passionate lyrics. Writing in a folksy/indie/acoustic style is what he does best – breaking down chord progressions into melodies, using her guitar as a duet partner in rhythm and harmonies. When Sparrow is not hard at work creating, he enjoys spending time with animals, being around trees, lakes, and the ocean, perceiving the changing of the seasons, and enjoying a hot cup of coffee.
